Wendy Sobelman Biography

I am a licensed, trauma informed psychotherapist with a rich background in the  body/mind connection.
After 25 years as a hospital based Dance Therapist and then Clinical Social Worker, I went into Private Practice
I was trained in EMDR in 2006 but was fortunate to expand my knowledge with EMDR 2.0. in 2021 with over six trainings out of the Netherlands with Dr Ad de Jongh and Dr Suzy Matthijessen- culminating in a Master Training in person.
I have lectured on sexual abuse, personality disorders, trauma, workplace stress and performance anxiety.  These presentations were at Hospital Grand Rounds, National and International Creative Arts Therapy conferences, Manhattan School of Music and the Association of Psychoanalytic Physicians.
I currently see individuals in my part time private practice suffering from such experiences as abuse, workplace harassment and bullying, panic attacks and anxiety. I help to motivate clients to face their fear of reliving trauma by giving them the techniques and treatment they need to recover. Sometimes one or two EMDR sessions can cure PTSD. Other times a total of ten sessions can relieve flashbacks and negative self concepts. For others- thoughtful, compassionate, goal oriented, ongoing psychotherapy with the addition of EMDR is needed.  I employ mindfulness as well as cognitive behavioral techniques.
Outside of my professional life I enjoy dancing tango, going to the Ballet, Theater, and Jazz concerts.  I practice yoga, meditation and am a beginner gardener.
