Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD is a NORMAL response to adverse life events.

The symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder have two kinds of trouble. Type one trouble includes flashbacks, nightmares, reliving of experiences, and obsessive thoughts about the episode while Type 2 trouble includes avoidance, social isolation, numbing, and substance abuse.  Both kinds of PTSD sufferers may experience insomnia, hypervigilance, and startle responses.

You must know that clients get past their PTSD all the time. We work in the individual’s “window”. When it is open we work on traumatic material and when it is closed we work on social supports and finding a safe space within while building on strengths and coping skills.
